For best performance, you need to understand how the Air Conditioner works. A motor home Air Conditioner is a recirculating air conditioner (please refer to the graphic at the top of this page) it does not take 110 degree air and convert it to 50 degrees. It goes 110 to 105, 105 to 100, 100 to..... Each time the air circulates through the Air Conditioner the air temperature drops approximately 5 degrees. The longer you run it the colder it gets.

During the summer you need to turn the A/C on before the RV gets super hot.

Think of going to the mall with your car. If you roll your windows up and leaf it in the sun you will come out to a superheated car (your car's interior can get as hot as 170 degrees) the same applies to the motor home. If you leave your motor home in the sun, with all the windows closed, and go out for a day of "jet skiing" in July or August, you will come back to an extremely hot motor home. If at that point you attempt to turn your Air Conditioner on and cool the motor home down, it may take a very long time. Your best bet is to either park in the shade, leave some windows open or both, or if you are hooked up to park electricity turn your Air Conditioner on before leaving for your day of jet skiing. You will come back to a much cooler nicer motor home.

Your Air Conditioner must either be hooked up to the generator or hooked up to an outside power source. 

If you run your Air Conditioner using your generator, you must first make sure your generator is started and warmed up before turning on your Air Conditioner, in other words, you must make sure that the Air Conditioner switch is in the off position before starting your generator. If you try to start your Air conditioner before your generator is warmed up you can:

• Stall your generator (if you do it several times in a row you can foul out your spar plug, in which case your generator will not run unless you remove the spar plugs of the generator and clean them.
• Short out the circuit board on your generator, in which case your generator will not run at all.
• Trip the circuit the circuit breaker located on the generator itself. This is by far the easiest thing to fix. The circuit breaker is located either on the front or the side of the generator and you simply need to reset it. Make sure your Air Conditioner is turn off before resetting the breaker, as it will simply trip again.

Once your generator is warmed up, you turn your Air Conditioner on and wait for your generator to cycle (rev up and down) as your AC compressor engages. Then turn the temperature control knob to the desired coolness. Your air Conditioner has two parts of the selector switch: one part will just turn the fan on, the other setting will turn the air compressor on. 

Simply plug your electrical cord into the campground hook up and follow the Air Conditioner directions. If your Air Conditioner fails to operate by this modus operation you may have:

• A dead campground plug.
• Low voltage at the campground.
• The campground breaker may be tripped.
• The circuit breaker in the motorhome itself might have tripped.

1. First common mistake is turn the switch to the fan setting instead of the "cool" setting, by doing this you will simply blow warm air around the coach. 
2. Another common mistake is when people are at a campground plugged into the campground's power, they forget to plug the power cord back into the generator when they leave the campground. You can not have the generator on and be plugged into an outside electrical source, this will produce 220 volts and trip your circuit breakers. Manufacturers have devised two ways to stop this from accidentally happening Some motor homes have an automatic switch which switches from your generator to an outside electrical source. Other manufacturers have a manual system.  Your 110 volt motor home power cord need to be plug into either the generator or the outside 110 volt power source.  Another common mistake is when people are at a campground plugged into the campground's power, they forget to plug the power cord back into the generator when they leave the campground. Thus causing the Air Conditioner not to function (think of unplugging your television and trying to  turning it on). These people will generally come back at the end of their trip complaining the Air Conditioner failed half way though their trip. We will go out to the motor home, and plug the cord back to the generator and the Air Conditioner will go on. Please check your connections.

• Air Conditioner freezes up.- Your Air Conditioner condenses water that drips down the side of the motorhome. This is a normal, natural thing to do. Sometimes the water will start accumulating and freezing on the fan itself. If this start to happen the Air Conditioner can start icing up which will caused it to freeze. If this happen you simply need to turn your Air Conditioner off and allow it to thaw out.
• Circuit Breaker Trips - You may trip a circuit breaker either on the motorhome, on the generator or at the campground. Simply turn your Air Conditioner off, reset all the breakers (breakers need to be turn off and turn back on, a visual inspection is not adequate).
• You have no 110 volt power - Your motorhome have either become unplugged from its power source or your generator has stopped running.
